Hebrew Voices #220 – The Aramaic Dialect of Jesus: Part 1
In this episode of Hebrew Voices #220 - The Aramaic Dialect of Jesus: Part 1, Nehemia brings back Dr. Kim Phillips to discuss Gospel texts written in a form of Aramaic very close to what Jesus would have spoken, the various dialects of Aramaic, and how he managed to painstakingly revive an erased text using 21st-century imaging technology.
I look forward to reading your comments!

Dr. Blizzard is this really you?
Is there a download with a translation of what they have found so far?
Curious. With Palestinian-Judaeo Aramaic being closer to Hebrew than Greek, would these NT sources be more likely to exhibit grammatical Hebraisms than their Greek counterparts?
I believe that Yehoshua would have spoken any language that He needed to, since I do believe He is the Son of Man and the Son of God. The Ruach was always with Him from within the womb. I also be believe that He is the son that Psalms 2:12 & Proverbs 31:2 speak of. Furthermore, He is the הוא that is not interpreted in its deeper meaning. He is the בר in the first two letters/sefer in Torah.
Be blessed, beloveds!
I listened to this because I was curious as to how Dr. Kim Phillips would present his reason for stating that Yeshua’ spoke Aramaic, and I could understand his position of understanding that Yeshua’ would have spoken in a dialect of Aramaic just as many in that region would also have done so in being a multilingual area. But just as when the movie made by Mel Gibson “The Passion of the Christ” in 2004 came out and they had Yeshua’ speaking in Aramaic instead of Hebrew, I asked many people – scholars and lay-person – two questions which none of them could answer me, and that was: “Why was the notice which Pilate had placed upon the stake upon which Yeshua’ was crucified NOT written in Aramaic but rather: “… and it had been written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek” (John 19:19-20)? And why when Yeshua’ was taking his last breath upon that very same stake did he cry out in Hebrew ” ‘Eli! ‘Eli! Lammah ‘Azavtani !?” (or “Eli Eli, lama sabachthani” in most new testament bibles) [Matthew 27:46] if Aramaic was his normal spoken language? Nehemia asked Dr. Phillips if Yeshua’ also spoke Hebrew and he conceded that “Yes, he would have because he would have read his bible in Hebrew.” Sad, to say, but they didn’t have bibles back then, and from what I understand when listening to the experts on ancient Hebrew society, unless a family was wealthy, there were no Torah-scrolls in the lower-classes of households – those people got to hear it read from the cohanim/ priests when they went to the Tabernacle, then the Temple, and then the synagogues. And because Yeshua’ was able to read from the scroll of Yesha’yahu/ Isaiah he definitely could read it as well as speak it!!! 🙂 I can tell you by experience that you do not learn to read any language by just hearing it spoken, but rather, one must be taught to recognize the letters, and write it.
This episode, although interesting, and I did learn things about the Aramaic language which I did not know prior to now, leaves one believing that Yeshua’ (who few disputes was a Jew and lived a Jewish life, and had Jewish disciples and followers during his days of life) spoke a dialect of Aramaic as his main tongue – I strongly disagree with him and others who believe this because the Torah (entire Instruction from Genesis to Revelations) does not support this.
I very rarely leave any comments on any of the episodes, but this is one falsehood that has led to people straying from Yehovah’s truth and I can not be silent now any more than I could 21 years ago.
Fascinating study! It’s like solving a centuries old mystery by using the most modern technology available to reveal an amazing secret!
